St. George’s Anglican Church is the oldest church in St. Catharines, construction beginning in 1835 to replace an even earlier building erected in 1796.  The Tower and spire were designed by John Howard of Toronto.  It has been enlarged and beautified over the years and contains many memorials and stained glass windows commemorating the Shipman, Merritt, Taylor, Rate, Benson, Coy, Schmon, Woodruff and Carlisle families, among others.  It is the Garrison Church of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment.  The old cemetery contains grave stones of many early residents of the area.
