In 1799, Asa Ransom, a silversmith, took advantage of the offer by the Holland Land Company of a reduced price to build and operate a tavern on Main Street in the hollow. In 1853, the present Asa Ransom House was build on the site of Ransom's log tavern.  Visitors can enjoy a tour of the inn's nine guest rooms, view the ruins of the first grist mill in Erie County built by Ransom in 1803, and inspect the herb and flower gardens with more than 70 varieties of herbs.
